NFL WEEK TEN ODDS POINT SPREADS & OVER/UNDERS
LAS VEGAS RAIDERS @ DENVER BRONCOS (-9)
This matchup conjures up some of the greatest memories of my life as an undergrad student at Denver University.
I made a circle of great friends and enjoyed too many nights getting more than a mile high, pursuing romance, standing in line for concert tickets that cost 15.00 bucks--and we still bitched about the prices--going to the gym, climbing mountains that had little to do with topography; loving life, luckily laughing too much, and crying too little; you know, forever young--ultimately finding ourselves as a small happy community...
My Halcyon Days...
I fell in love with Denver and love it to this day. Clean, green, comfortable in it’s own past, present, and future; diverse before it was a thing.. The people were gracious, accepting; the women were beautiful. I learned how to cook authentic Mexican food at a restaurant just a football throw from campus...
DU was founded as a seminary, and has a special place in the development of the American West--just being there you could almost smell the rugged history.
The campus was gorgeous. My golden retriever, Tarkus, and I spent endless hours on the grounds playing frisbee. He picked up more females than I ever did.
My professors were brilliant, and I am forever indebted to them.
Denver was the perfect place to be at the perfect time of my life
One of my great joys was reaming the Broncos fans every Sunday in the fall--dating myself now--because the Steelers were in the joyous throes of their Halcyon days.
Of course, when the Broncos earned their first playoff win in history during the first round of the ‘77 playoffs, a 34-21 win vs Pittsburgh, I took well deserved abuse--until they got shellacked by Dallas in the ensuing Super Bowl. That Sunday, and for the only time in my life, I rooted for the hated Cowboys--and got into a brawl at the famed Rathskeller.
Luckily I was tight with the head bouncer..
My only regret was having to say goodbye to the Mile High City to attend grad school back in Pittsburgh--that’s another chapter...
Oh Yeah, The Game
The Raiders were in Oakland then, and when they played Denver, I begrudgingly rooted for the Orange Slush--er, Crush. That habit has continued for almost five decades--and will tonight.
Yes, the Raiders are that high on my Hate List. It's a Pittsburgh thing...
Da Raidas also just traded Jakobi Meyers their elite receiver, which should make it so much easier for Denver’s elite defense to torture QB, Geno Smith, all night.
It also doesn’t hurt the Broncs that Vegas is a bad football team.
I’m breaking a couple of rules by picking Denver: Going against a divisional Dog with a long Spread is usually not a profitable thing to do, but Denver is at home, and they are rounding into a legit contender for February football.
Lay the Chalk and bet the Under.
Broncos 31
Raiders 11
