NFL 2024 - WEEK FOURTEEN
GAME OF THE WEEK
Pittsburgh Steelers @ Baltimore Ravens (-7) 46.5 GW [U]
Why does it seem to me the Bookies are a little off this week?
This line held steady at 5 to 5.5 all week until George Pickens was ruled out, then it moved a point+ the Black & Gold’s way when the great and greatly immature receiver was ruled out.
Steelers GM, Omar Khan and coach Mike Tomlin gotta be kickin’ themselves. They had legitimate opportunities to get a bonafide #2 receiver, albeit at a premium price--but settled for Mike Williams who can’t get any more separation from opposing DBs than Santa can get from Christmas.
To be fair, William’s over the opposite shoulder game winning catch against the Commandos was superb--but what has he caught for Pittsburgh lately?
I had marked Baltimore as my choice, even giving Pittsburgh 5.5. I believe Lamar and the Magpies are sick of hearing about the two-time MVP’s failures in the NFL’s most intense rivalry, or how the Steelers have won eight of the last nine matchups--two by 7 points, the rest by 4 points or less.
Baltimore will win and Cover this one unless the Men of Steel can again make Derek Henry look merely human--and I do I believe they can--but I can’t fathom my Steelers making Lamar Jackson look below average-yet again.
I’ll spend the afternoon praying I’m wrong.
The Crows scavenge a victory, and Cover--Under the Number...
****To the reader: I mistakenly cut and pasted the wrong final paragraph from my original Word file along with the predicted score...I picked Baltimore in my picks below in bold and italic... I picked Baltimore to Cover before the week based on Pickens injury...I'm. recording the pick as valid...***

LOCK OF THE WEEK
Houston Texans @ Kansas City Chiefs (+2.5) 40.5. US [O]
Are you kidding me? This is getting downright ree-godamned-dickulous!!!
I nabbed this line early Monday morning and checked it three times for typos. I couldn’t put it on my Tally Sheet fast enough. My first thought: the Bookies had finally gone insane.
Not really. Patrick Mahomes’ ankle was the reason why the Texans were evanescent favorites--but I was surprised even at that fickle flash of fate.
When Mahomes was cleared to play the line ticked up six points to a much more sane KC -3.5.
Yet, even at that modest Spread and Hook, I still estimated Houston should have been at least a 5-6 point Road Dog.
Look at the standings.
AFC South
Team W-L Pct
Houston 9-5 0 .643
Indianapolis 6-8 0 .429
Jacksonville 3-11 .214
Tennessee 3-11 .214
By far, The Shit Kickers lead the worst division this side of the NFC South.
How about Houston’s Game Logs?
If we count last week’s win over Miami, they have two quality wins all season, Buffalo being the other. Four divisional wins plus victories against Dallas, the Pats, and Da Bears. They lost to the Jets, Titans and three playoff bound teams.
Even at a 3,5 Spread their way, I’d pick KC. This is one of those rare picks that can be an Upset Special or a Lock of the Week.
The Chiefs roll big--just a tick Over the Number.
Chiefs 31
Texans. 10
UPSET SPECIAL
Los Angeles Rams @ New York Jets (+3) 47.5. US [U]
The Rams, if nothing else, always play hard for Sean McVay and his staff.
Under McVay, the Rams have been superb in 1 p.m. Eastern Time Zone games. They’ve gone 10-4 in that early window, with one of those losses being their overtime defeat against the Ravens in Week 14 of last year.
The Jets are a 4-10 football team who had visions of being more like 10-4. They are a steaming wreck of a football team under a coach who is in over his head--or, maybe the players don’t know who the coach, GM, or owner really is...
Probably because they stupidly signed first ballot HOFer, and perennial nominee for Jag-Off of the Year in A-A-Ron Rogers.
Frankly, I can’t stand to look at the guy or here him talk--he oozes smugness the way a rotten grapefruit oozes pulp.
It’s always the greatest of pleasures rooting against him.
Play the Under...
Rams 23
Jets 16
O/U OF THE WEEK
Tennessee Titans @ Indianapolis Colts (-4.5) 42.5 O/U
These are two bad football teams with shaky, if not desperate quarterback rooms...
...And division rivals who know each other well...
...Both organizations wouldn’t mind picking in the top three of the 2025 draft
Points will be at a premium...
The Under is our confident call...
Colts 21
Panthers 16
As usual, my picks are below in bold italics...
