PREMIUM PICKS CUMULATIVE  =  7 - 6

============================================

WEEK ONE OF A KIND

We had the best Week One in our history:  11-5 ATS...3-2 on our Specials...4-4 on our O/U calls...and we took the Week One 225.00 kitty in our Pick 'em Pool.

My theories on the pre-season melding into September, and the growing pains teams with new coaches and/or QBs face were vindicated in 2025’s opening stanza.

Let’s see if we can build on that success...

GAME OF THE WEEK (TNF)

Washington Commanders @ Green Bay Packers (-3.5)  48.5. [O]

We have this one in the bag off the Packers decisive Thursday Night win over Washington--although we wrongly called the Over...

Packers 27

Commanders 18

LOCK OF THE WEEK

Los Angeles Chargers @ Las Vegas Raiders (+3.5)  44.5 LW [U]

I got on the Electricians Train for 2025 when Jim Harbaugh was named head coach last year.

Figured it would take the former Michigan HC--with a National Championship ring--a year to get his players charged up..

If you check out the Bolts Week One victory against Baltimore, you might agree San Diego has a championship future.

Don’t get me wrong, if John Harbaugh, head honcho of that Murder of Crows in Baltimore, has the most punchable face in America, little brother, Jim, is running a close second.

The Harbaughs give the impression they are annoying crybabies, but they command considerable respect.   Jim has won championships on every level and is obsessed with winning; brother John--well, obsession and winning runs in the family--ask their dad.

San Diego‘s Chargers are a legitimate Super Bowl contender.  Justin Herbert is the best QB west of the Charm City, and the Chargers are starting to play like their coach demands they play.

Pete Carroll new at the Raiders helm, all 74 years of him, exudes the same intensity as Jim Harbaugh.  Throughout their college and professional careers, they are 6-6 in head-to-head match ups..  If you want more details go here:

I respect Geno Smith’s talent and Carroll knows how to use him from their stint in Seattle, but the Bolts have more talent, more juice, and the better QB.

We don’t really like backing divisional Home Dogs getting the field goal hook, but we're betting Herbert will score enough to cover--Under the Total...

Chargers  22

Raiders 10

OVER/UNDER OF THE WEEK + STEELERS GAME

Seattle Seahawks @ Pittsburgh Steelers (-2.5)  40.5 O/U

Remember, I grew up, was raised to be, and will go to the crematorium as a die-hard Pittsburgh Steelers fan.

I try to be objective when ‘capping Pittsburgh games, but I  am honest enough to believe bias may rear its ugly helmet.

The Gulls are an outstanding 19-7 in the early 1:00 window since 2018--other West Coast clubs win just 47% of the time on the East Coast. Credit for that phenomenal success accrues to former 'Hawks head coach, Pete Carroll; he had assistants investigate sleep rhythms, the importance of hydration,l and many other factors in long-distance traversing multiple time zones.

Here’s a breakdown:

  • Unlike other West Coast teams traveling East, Carroll’s Hawks flew in two days before a game.

  • They practice at the usual, mid-afternoon time on Friday in Washington, then fly io their game city.

  • The staff times the flight so they check in at midnight, (9:00 PST) to maintain the player’s inner clocks.

  • The trick is to keep the Seahawks Seahawks on their normal sleep times..

  • They begin warm-ups on the field at the same time they do for home games.

The above info might immediately influence a lot of analysts to tilt toward the Gulls in this match-up, but I believe every game must be taken at its own “face value.”

This week, second-year HC Mike McDonald did not follow Caroll’s protocol; the Hawks flew in on Saturday.

Seattle has a new offensive coordinator in the well-regarded Clint Kubiak, and newly acquired QB, Sam Darnold, who is coming off his best season ever with the 2024 Vikings.

Remember, teams with more than one major change--at QB or at the coordinator level-- usually experience longer periods of adjustment.

Darnold’s success in the Twin Cities last year was a bona fide outlier--it was the only season when he had a rating above 84.3 (2019), besides his 2022 six-game stint with Carolina.

In short, a guy with a career 84.0 QB rating, a 98-68 TD/Int ratio on a new team, under a new OC, hasn’t convinced me he has arrived.

And Pittsburgh has DK Metcalf, Seattle’s former best receiver, now wearing Black & Gold.

Seattle’s O-Line is at least a notch, or two, below the Jets OL, a unit that embarrassed the Pittsburgh rush defense.  Seattle’s defense, like the Steelers, is still searching for itself.  If we believe the anger raging in the Black & Gold locker room after last Sunday's defensive debacle, stopping the run will be this week’s focus.

Darnold better be on his game. Jalen Ramsey could make the decent Pittsburgh secondary dangerous.

We’re laying the Chalk, looking for Aaron Rodgers to play smart football, T.J. Watt to make a game-altering play, and a ten-point Steelers win--Over the Number.

Steelers  26

Seahawks  16

UPSET SPECIAL

San Francisco 49ers @ New Orleans Saints (+6.5) 43.5 US  [U]

This is one of those “feel” calls. The vibes drifting out of San Fran just don’t scream healthy.

QB Brock Purdy has a turf toe,  stud tight-end, George Kittle is on the four-week IR with a torn hammy.

All told, the Gold Miners have 13 guys on IR and 11 questionable for this game.

I’ve never seen a M*A*S*H* unit this crowded in 17 years analyzing NFL games--especially this early in the season.

We locked in this spread early on Tuesday morning--it’s currently Niners +2.5.  We’ll take the Under.

49ers  22

Saints  16

As usual, my picks are below in bold italics...
