New York Jets +7 @ Cleveland Browns (-7) 33.5 [O]
When Robert Saleh left San Francisco for the Meadowlands, it was widely thought he would be the Jets savior--a charismatic, young, smart, guy, a master of defense, who would resuscitate a franchise still trying to find a replacement for Joe Namath.
Until last weekend’s announcement by Jet’s owner, Woody Johnson, that Saleh and his staff, along with GM Joe Douglas will return next year, there were rumblings Saleh might end up like Jimmy Hoffa--buried under several tons of concrete in the stadium’s parking lot.
After tonight’s game, Saleh and his crew might wonder if that ending would be so bad.
The Browns host the Jets tonight, playing the QB the Jets braintrust had on their roster last year, one Joe Flacco, who is playing like Namath used to. While the Jets are starting, I don’t know, Flip Wilson, (okay, Trevor Siemien), who is playing in place of Mr. Clusterfuck himself, Aaron Rodgers.
Much of the cynical New York fan base blames the former Packer star for bogarting a roster spot when he should have been in IR, and insisting Saleh remain coach while threatening to retire if his demand wasn’t met.
The Jets are a bad football team with a good defense that has given their defensive brethren precious little help--and that’s starting to take it’s toll on everyone.
The Browns are a football team improving by the minute with the NFL’s best defense and a seasoned QB with a ring, who will take great pleasure in thrashing his former team
We like the Browns here, and the 33.5 Total is due to the quality of the defenses--I think Flacco scores 24 and the Jets barely crack double digits--but that Total is just too low...
Browns 24
Jets 10
