2025 has been the most difficult season to handicap in the last 10 years.
Right now, Da Bears and Patriots are the one seeds in their respective conferences--the two squads playing tonight would be golfing if the season ended now.
If anyone predicted that reality in August, I’d be shocked.
The consensus for tonight’s matchup is the Cowboys are the team “nobody wants to face in the playoffs”... The reasoning is Dallas has won three in a row--their last two to the two most recent Super Bowl teams. Meanwhile, the Lions have meowed their way to a 3-4 record in their last seven games, are riddled with injuries on the O-Line, and their skill players are banged up even if they do take the field tonight.
Every article or podcast I checked is going with Dallas and the Chalk (-3).
This is a huge game--the winner most likely has the inside track to at least a Wild Card berth, the loser probably misses the post-season.
After the 5-11 disaster yours truly dealt himself last week--more in my weekend post--I have no right to offer a confident pick for tonight’s tilt.
The Cowboys seem to be revived with new HC, Brian Schottenheimer--and George Pickens has turned Dallas’ already potent offense into a nightmare for opposing defenses. Also, Pickens thrives against the preferred pass defense Detroit runs--lots of man coverage , hoping their pass rush can apply consistent pressure--but I don’t trust the ‘Boys to maintain their current level of play.
I can only go to my first instinct, even if it goes against most analysis, which is laying the three and going with the Home team.
None of us should be surprised if, once again, I have no idea what I’m doing, but looking at the tally sheets at NBC, CBS, and virtually anywhere else, I’m am definitely not alone.
Lay the points and play the Under.
Lions 28
Cowboys 24
